One person is in hospital after shooting in Gulf County

GULF COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – UPDATE: Joni Carr is in custody and is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The name of the shooting victim has not been released, but he remains in critical condition and is hospitalized.

GCSO investigators say an incident that occurred two miles from the shooting prompted a female motorist to pursue a white man in another vehicle on East River Road. The man stopped in the middle of the road, about a quarter mile past the high school, and approached the woman in her vehicle.

According to GCSO, the female suspect pulled out a firearm and fired several shots as the man approached, striking him once in the chest. The man was unarmed.

The sheriff's office says this is an isolated incident and has no connection to the high school.

“There is no domestic relationship here. We are unsure of the exact motive and we are still receiving details and the investigation is ongoing at this time,” Gulf County Sheriff Mike Harrison said. “This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community. We have the individual in custody. We have the weapon and we will go from there.”

The shooting occurred during a junior football game near school grounds, but no players, staff or spectators were in danger.
