Senate subcommittee presents detailed report on Fulton County's problem prison

ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – The Georgia Senate subcommittee on the Fulton County Jail will release its findings Friday after a seven-month investigation into the crisis at the troubled facility.

Since October, the subcommittee has met with stakeholders to collect data and testimony, including Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat, District Attorney Fani Willis and Fulton County Commissioner Chairman Robb Pitts.

The conditions in the prison have been questioned for years.

Since the beginning of 2023, 13 people have died in the county jail.

Friday's report also follows the arrest of four prison security guards on suspicion of having sex with inmates.

The Senate subcommittee will hold a press conference beginning at 8 a.m. Friday in the Senate Press Room at the Georgia State Capitol.
