Armstrong County man arrested for attempted murder after allegedly stabbing man in the chest

RURAL VALLEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) — An Armstrong County man is behind bars for stabbing a man to death at a Rural Valley residence on Tuesday, police said.

Court records show that Kittanning-based state police have filed charges against the 48-year-old Andrew Milton Berryof Rural Valley, in the office of District Judge Kevin McCausland on Wednesday, August 21.

According to PSP Kittanning, on Tuesday, August 20, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on West Main Street in Rural Valley Borough, Armstrong County, for a stabbing.

Upon their arrival, police found the known victim, who had suffered a stab wound to the chest area.

The victim was transported by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

By questioning the victim and witnesses, it was determined that the victim was in his apartment with Andrew Berrys According to police, Berry entered the victim's apartment unannounced, attacked the victim and stabbed him in the chest area.

According to court documents, Berry was arraigned before Judge McCausland at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, on the following charges:

  • Homicide, Offense 1
  • Burglary – overnight accommodation; person present, assault, offence 2
  • Serious bodily harm – attempting or causing bodily harm with a deadly weapon, offence 2
  • Simple assault, misdemeanor 2
  • Harassment – ​​Physically harassing others, summary

Since he was unable to raise the $250,000.00 bail, he was placed in the Armstrong County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 27 at 1:00 p.m., presided over by Judge McCausland.
