Cleveland mother charged with death of her child and neglect of other children

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A Cleveland mother was indicted by a grand jury Thursday in the death of one child and the neglect of her other two children, according to a news release from the Cuyahoga County District Attorney's Office.

Niesha Walls, 33, is charged with manslaughter, aggravated assault and three counts of child endangerment in the death of her two-year-old son, Noell Walls, and the neglect of her other children.

According to the press release, Cleveland Police, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority and Cleveland EMS responded to a wellness check on Niesha Walls at a residence near Anita Kennedy Avenue and Kinsman Road on August 6.

When officers arrived, they found a house in deplorable condition, the press release states. Two-year-old Noell Walls was unresponsive.

Noell Walls was pronounced dead at the scene; further examination revealed that Noell was suffering from an untreated illness.

Two other children, a nine-year-old and an 11-year-old, appeared to be severely malnourished and were taken to hospital, according to the press release.

According to court documents, Walls will be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 27 at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center.
