Separate incidents occurred in Oxnard on Thursday evening following a shooting and a collision between a bicycle and a car, requiring victims to be taken to hospitals.

In connection with the shooting incident, Oxnard police received a series of calls beginning at 9:12 p.m. about multiple reports of gunshots heard in the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar Drive. Minutes later, police received additional calls about a single-vehicle traffic accident with injuries at Rose and Emerson Avenue, about 3 miles away. The callers told police that one of the people in the vehicle had been shot.

Officers found a 17-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to the neck in the traffic accident. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. Her condition is stable. Two other passengers were uninjured.

Police said witnesses and evidence helped them determine that the girl was traveling with two passengers on Cuesta Del Mar when someone fired several shots at their car, hitting her. They were fleeing the area in the car to take the girl to a hospital when they crashed.

According to the news release, the Oxnard Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Randall Gonzales at 805-288-3289 or via email at [email protected].
