OAKLAND – Police say a person was shot and killed in East Oakland Thursday night.

After multiple ShotSpotter activations, officers were dispatched to the 7900 block of Ney Avenue around 7 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a victim who suffered at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police learned that several injured people were also taken to nearby hospitals. Authorities did not provide any information on the exact number of injured or the condition of the victims.

The identity of the victim, who died at the scene of the accident, is being kept secret until next of kin have been notified.

The incident is the second shooting in East Oakland in less than a week in which multiple victims were injured or killed. On Saturday morning, police responded to the 1600 block of 83rd Avenue after a ShotSpotter activation in the area.

When police arrived, they found four people with gunshot wounds, two of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. Earlier this week, officers from the Oakland Police Department confirmed that two suspects were arrested on Monday as part of the quadruple shooting at the weekend.

The two fatal shootings occurred in the same area in East Oakland, with the locations only about a five-minute drive apart. Anyone with information about either case is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at (510) 238-3821 or the tip line at (510) 238-7950.
