Dickson County deputy charged with sexual contact with prison inmate

A former deputy sheriff at the Dickson County Jail is accused of three counts of sexual contact with an inmate.

The Dickson County Sheriff's Office said former deputy Calvin Lewis was arrested at his home Thursday after a grand jury returned three counts of indictment against him. He was taken to jail but was ordered to post $25,000 bail around 3 p.m. Thursday, according to a jail official reached by phone.

In a press release, the sheriff's office said there were “allegations of sexual misconduct between Lewis and female inmates.” When the office learned of the possible misconduct in March, Dickson County Sheriff Tim Eads placed Lewis on leave, launched an internal investigation and requested a criminal investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Lewis was fired from the sheriff's office based on the results of the internal investigation, the sheriff's press release said.

“Our office does not and will not tolerate such behavior,” the press release said. “The safety of the inmates in our care is of paramount importance. We have established protocols to ensure that such allegations are properly investigated and prosecuted when appropriate.”

Lewis could not be reached for comment at a phone number found in an online database.
