Man arrested in another state after wife's body found burned at home, authorities say

ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) – A murder suspect has been arrested in Louisiana after his wife’s burned remains were found in a Georgia home.

Authorities say Kenneth Hardin Jr., 39, is accused of shooting his wife, Carrie Hardin, early Tuesday and then burning and burying her body in the backyard of their Fayetteville, Georgia, home.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office said Carrie Hardin was killed early this morning following an argument.

Fayette County investigators said Hardin told his family Wednesday morning he was leaving town after killing his wife in self-defense.

His father reportedly called 911 shortly after the conversation.

Investigators went to the house, where they discovered the partially burned remains of Carrie Hardin in a shallow grave in the backyard “among yard debris.”

The sheriff's office said they tracked Kenneth's car to Covington, Louisiana, and worked with the Louisiana State Patrol and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office to locate the vehicle.

His car was found in front of a motel. Hardin was arrested in his room by a SWAT team.

He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center and will be extradited to Fayette County.

The sheriff's office has not disclosed what charges will be filed against Kenneth.
