44-year-old seriously injured in accident that led to closure of I-94 in Waukesha County

WAUKESHA COUNTY – According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, I-94 was closed in both directions Friday morning due to an accident.

The closure occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. between US 18 and County F/Redford Blvd.

“Expect significant delays at the scene of the accident from both directions,” the Ministry of Transport said in a traffic report.

The eastbound lanes of the interstate reopened to traffic around 9:15 a.m. Friday, and all but one westbound lane reopened around 9:45 a.m. All lanes were fully reopened by around 11:30 a.m.

State DOT footage via SafetyVid.org shows a Flight for Life helicopter landing on the highway shortly after the crash, suggesting someone suffered serious injuries in the incident.

In a press release from the Brookfield Fire Department, Deputy Chief Blake Klingle said firefighters received a 911 call about “a possible hit-and-run incident following a vehicle leaving the roadway.”

When they arrived, they found a vehicle with significant damage as well as damage to a highway retaining wall.

A 44-year-old man was seriously injured in the accident, according to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
