Limousine driver arrested for drunk driving after fatal crash in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE (CNS) – A 22-year-old Oceanside resident died in a rollover crash Friday and the driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after his passenger was ejected from a sedan on State Route 76, Oceanside police said Friday.

The crash occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday when the driver, Dejhaun Jones, a 20-year-old Oceanside resident, lost control of a BMW that overturned on SR-76 east of Loretta Street, an OPD statement said. Jones suffered minor injuries.

The passenger who was ejected from the plane suffered serious injuries, including head trauma, the statement said. The passenger was taken to Scripps La Jolla Medical Center and died of his injuries at 3:18 a.m. Friday. His identity was withheld pending notification of his family.

Jones was examined and found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving, the OPD statement said. Jones was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

The investigation was carried out by the OPD's Major Accident Investigation Team.
