Child seriously injured in stabbing in Paterson

A serious stabbing incident in Paterson left a child critically injured and fighting for his life. Local authorities have launched an investigation.

Paterson Police responded to a 911 call from 390 10th Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. today.

When officers arrived, they discovered a girl, reportedly only five years old, with numerous stab wounds.

Life-saving measures were immediately taken on site and the seriously injured child was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The young female victim was then taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in serious condition.

Details about the motive and circumstances of the stabbing are still unclear as the investigation is currently still ongoing.

Authorities are looking for the child's aunt to question her about the stabbing.

Police did not release any further information about the incident or the child's identity.

The population is in shock and the authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward and help with the investigation.
