Fugitive arrested after attack on child in Missouri with tomahawk

BATES CO., Missouri (KCTV) — A wanted fugitive was arrested after he attacked a child with a tomahawk and was found in rural Missouri.

The Bates County Sheriff's Office in Missouri said emergency crews were called to a home in a rural part of the county on Tuesday, August 20, because a juvenile had been attacked.

When emergency responders arrived, they learned that a child had been struck in the face with an axe by Micael L. Richards. They also learned that Richards was wanted by the U.S. Marshals on a federal warrant for parole violation.

When investigators contacted the marshals, they warned that Richards had shot at them and was reported as a fugitive. He was taken into custody on a warrant.

Police officials said charges of assault on a juvenile with a deadly weapon have been filed with the District Attorney's Office and are currently under review. Additional charges are expected.
