Shooting suspect returning to crime scene arrested

MARIN CITY — Marin County Sheriff's detectives have investigated and arrested a man believed to be responsible for a shooting incident in Marin City. A former Marin City resident identified as a suspect later returned to the scene.

The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of August 4. The victim was out with friends in the 200 block of Drake Avenue in Marin City when shots were fired. The victim was shot in the back at close range. The victim was treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds and is reportedly still recovering at home.

In a prepared statement, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said: “A thorough and comprehensive investigation was conducted. Investigators were able to establish probable cause to arrest Anthony Cozart, an 18-year-old Larkspur man, for the shooting.”

Investigators spent 10 days searching for Cozart, who lived in Marin City before recently moving to Larkspur. On August 14, the suspect returned to the crime scene. A deputy observed him walking along the 200 block of Drake Avenue.

Cozart was subsequently arrested and taken to the Marin County Jail on attempted murder charges. Cozart was held on $500,000 bail and later released from custody.
