9-year-old boy among two injured in shooting in North Philadelphia: police

Two people, including a nine-year-old boy, were injured in a shooting in North Philadelphia on Friday evening.

Shortly after 6 p.m., officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the 600 block of North 12th Street for reports of a shooting.

A 9-year-old boy was found with a gunshot wound to his right leg and a man was shot multiple times, police said.

Both victims were taken to Jefferson Hospital by police. The boy's condition was stabilized, the man is said to be in critical condition.

No arrests were reported immediately after the shooting. Police said they found a weapon in a building.

Police sources told FOX 29's Steve Keeley that the unknown gunman opened fire on the man, who took cover behind a parked car.

The 9-year-old boy, his mother, his stepfather and a sibling were all in the car with their windows rolled down when the shots were fired, Keeley said.

It is believed that the shooter reached into the car and shot the man, police sources told Keeley.
