Suspect arrested in cable theft

LEESVILLE, Louisiana (KPLC) – A suspect wanted for stealing communications cables in Vernon Parish is now in custody.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office asked for the public's help in locating the suspect who allegedly fled from police on Friday after stealing telephone wires.

Just before 4 a.m. Friday morning, Vernon detectives observed a suspect stealing a cable and then fleeing from authorities into a nearby wooded area along VFW Road near Leesville.

According to an eyewitness, the suspect was seen later that same day around 1 p.m. being picked up by two white women in a white SUV.

According to Vernon authorities, numerous telephone wires have been stolen from VFW Road in recent months. These thefts have resulted in several service outages for residents and thousands of dollars in damage to the telephone lines.

The suspect's name has not been released. We will have more on this story as it develops.
