A Saskatoon man was arrested and charged with various crimes he committed in the city on Thursday.

Early Thursday morning, an off-duty police officer on his way to work found an injured man in the Idylwyld Drive area.

When additional police and paramedics arrived to assist, they learned that the man had been attacked and robbed at an address just blocks away, in the 1000 block of Idylwyld Drive North.

Paramedics took the man to hospital for treatment of “multiple serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” while police returned to the scene of the attack and arrested three people.

According to police, one of those arrested, a 32-year-old man, began “behaving erratically, damaging (police) property and threatening to harm himself” after the arrest of these three people, which is why he was taken to hospital for examination.

He was eventually released after being charged with property damage valued at over $5,000.

But his release did not last long.

That afternoon, police received multiple reports of an armed man in the Idylwyld Drive North area “matching the description of the suspect being investigated for the earlier attack.”

As further reports came in, police learned that the man had robbed a gas station, threatened an employee with a baseball bat and damaged a display case before disappearing with “an undisclosed amount of money.”

Officers returned to the 1000 block of Idylwyld Drive North and arrested the man, who they also found in possession of methamphetamine at that time.

He is now charged with robbery, possession of a controlled substance and failure to comply with court orders.

Saskatoon police said officers are still investigating both the Thursday morning assault and the Thursday afternoon robbery.
