Odell Beckham, Jr., injury update from Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel

TAMPA – Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel provided an update on injuries to Odell Beckham, Jr., Jevon Holland, Erik Ezukanma, Patrick McMorris, Aaron Brewer and Benito Jones after Friday's game.

Beckham, OBJ, the star receiver, has neither practiced nor played for the Dolphins since his signing.

Is McDaniel optimistic that Beckham will train before the season?

“I'm confident in a lot of ways,” McDaniel said. “I'm not nervous about it. You're hopeful, but you have to listen to people's bodies and be very communicative. I know he's very optimistic about the way things are going, but you just have to take it one day at a time. And like I said, I'm not nervous because he's so involved. He's found a way to be kind of a leader without playing. That's hard, but his attitude is right, and that's why I feel good about it.”

Will the injured Odell Beckham Jr. practice for the Miami Dolphins?

If necessary, the Dolphins could impose a suspension on Beckham that would cause him to miss at least the first four games of the season.

The reason for Beckham's injury was not disclosed, but he had previously had knee problems.

Update on Jevon Holland's injury from the Miami Dolphins

Regarding Holland, who is also out with an unspecified problem, McDaniel said: “He had a really good practice today that he was looking forward to. I would say it's day by day now.”

This is extremely important considering that Holland is one of the most important players on the team.

Injuries to Erik Ezukanma and Patrick McMorris at the Dolphins

Regarding Ezukanma and McMorris, who were seen wearing hiking boots before the game, McDaniel said: “I would say at this point, as far as I know, it won't be more than a week, but it could be quicker.”

Brewer, the center, was out because of a hand injury.

“Aaron, nothing's changed,” McDaniel said. “I feel pretty good about it, but I don't know anything concrete. I think that's why it was important for us tonight to have a good feeling about where Rob Jones and Lester Cotton were, and they're just trying to get him some game experience.”

Why didn't Liam Eichenberg play for the Dolphins?

Why should guard/center Liam Eichenberg take a break on Saturday?

“With Liam, it was more of a reaction to what he does day in and day out and he's probably had as good a training camp as anyone and really put in some good workouts,” McDaniel said.

Regarding nose tackle Benito Jones' availability for the season, McDaniel said, “You know, it's hard to predict Week 1 for a lot of the guys, especially because there's been so much focus over the last few days on all these huge opportunities for a lot of guys. Right now, I'm not nervous about it at all. I'll have to sit down and think about some of these guys, including Benito, because it's just so important to me to really commit and be there 100% for the guys that are completing our roster.”
