El Paso man arrested in Juarez for driving under the influence, punched police officer, officials say

Traffic police in Juarez who arrested an El Paso man for drunk driving also said the man had previously attacked an officer at the border.

Juarez officials said they stopped a man named “Edgar T.” at the corner of Ruben Posada Poma and Adolfo Lopez Mateos after he disregarded a stop sign. Traffic safety officials administered a breathalyzer test, which they said was positive.

Agents say they also recognized him from a previous incident. On July 13, authorities say Edgar punched a highway patrol officer as he waited at the Bridge of the Americas to cross the border and then fled.

He was sentenced to 36 hours in prison for drunk driving and fined 10,000 Mexican pesos, or $520.


JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) – Traffic cops in Juarez have arrested an El Paso man they accused of hitting one of their officers.

The man, identified only as Edgar T., was waiting in line at a border crossing when he ran a stop sign and agents pulled him over. This happened on July 13, 2024, officials in Juarez say.

Officials said they arrested Edgar after he punched a police officer and then failed a breathalyzer test.

He was sentenced to 36 hours in a rehabilitation center and a fine of 10,000 pesos.
