An Arizona man who made death threats against former U.S. President Donald Trump on social media was arrested on Thursday. The Cochise County Sheriff's Office confirmed the arrest of the man, who was also wanted for other crimes. The arrest came on the same day that Trump was in Cochise County while visiting the U.S.-Mexico border as part of his campaign.

Authorities identified the man as 66-year-old Ronald Syvrud. Police found that Syvrud had several outstanding arrest warrants out of Wisconsin. He was subsequently booked into the Cochise County Jail on charges of “failure to register as a sex offender and two counts of felony assault in this case” out of Graham County, Arizona, according to the sheriff's office. The man remains in custody pending further sentencing.

Donald Trump's reaction

Trump also reacted to the arrest of the man who had threatened him with death on social media. “I'm not that surprised [by the threat] and the reason is that I want to do things that are very bad for the bad guys,” Trump said on Thursday when asked about the threat against him in Arizona. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is not the only one to have received death threats during her election campaign.

Earlier this month, a Virginia man was charged with making death threats against Harris. Before and after the infamous assassination attempt, the former president received several death threats ahead of the November election. A New Hampshire man was arrested in December after threatening to kill the Republican presidential candidate.

Amid the chaos, the US intelligence agency has come under fire following the assassination attempt on Trump, which ultimately led to the resignation of the federal agency's director. Despite all the threats, Trump has stressed that he has “great respect” for the agency and “the work it does.” He added that they have made mistakes from which they will learn.
