News from Pune: Tragic accident on Shirur-Chaufula highway claims young life

The Shirur-Chaufula highway, currently being constructed by the National Highway Department, is characterized by incomplete work and lack of proper safety measures such as delineator posts, reflectors and signboards. Despite repeated complaints from citizens, no action seems to have been taken against the contractor.

The highway, which has 10 major private hospitals and 5 major private schools passing by, is seeing a huge rush of students and patients and it is imperative that the work is completed quickly. However, Deputy Engineer, National Highway, Prerna Kotkar, attributed the delay to opposition to the road at some places.

The accident has once again highlighted the dangers of the unfinished road. Citizens face a difficult journey and many are permanently disabled as a result of the accidents. The public is demanding urgent action to complete the work and ensure that safety measures are in place to prevent such tragedies.
