Arrests outside Eastland Mall in investigation into drug and neglect offenses

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Three suspects were arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with a drug-related crime involving a toddler.

That's according to Evansville police, who say officers were called to the JCPenney parking lot in front of Eastland Mall around 2 p.m.

A mall security guard told police based on live surveillance video that he saw three people in the parking lot possibly using drugs.

The security guard said he saw a man sitting in the driver's seat of a car with a needle in his arm.

Officers found all three suspects and identified them as Trevor Pitts, Robin Redden and Rheagen Brown.

Police said they found five syringes in Pitts' pockets.

Pitts says Brown was standing in the car with Redden's toddler and used the syringe while he and Redden were in the car.

Inside the car, the police found three more syringes filled with methamphetamine.

Redden, Brown and Pitts were arrested and taken to prison on various drug charges. Redden is also charged with neglect of a dependent.
