Beyoncé threatens Trump for using “Freedom”

Beyoncé has banned the use of her 2016 song “Freedom” in Donald Trump's presidential campaign after Trump spokesman Steven Cheung posted an X-rated video of Trump getting off a plane with “Freedom” playing in the background. A clearly provocative decision, as “Freedom” is the official song of Kamala Harris' presidential campaign on the Democratic side. Harris announced her candidacy last month after Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race.

According to Rolling Stone and Billboard, after the video was released, Beyoncé's “record label” and her publisher threatened the Trump campaign with legal action over the use of “Freedom.” A “cease and desist” was enough for the video to be immediately deleted from the Trump campaign's profile on the aforementioned social network.

“Freedom” is Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar's great anti-racist anthem, a song in which Knowles denounces police violence against the African-American population in the United States. Last month, for example, the murder of Sonya Massey by a police officer in her own home shocked the country. “Freedom” was the fourth single from “Lemonade.”

Beyoncé is not the only artist to have called out the use of her song in Donald Trump's election campaign in recent weeks. Céline Dion also had to ask that “My Heart Will Go On” not be used, let alone a picture of her singing the song live at Trump's rallies.

Beyoncé just made headlines with the announcement of her own whiskey brand, while her album “Cowboy Carter” still hasn’t been promoted in any form months after its release.
