Man shot dead in Dublin apartment complex near elementary school; suspect sought

A man was killed in a shooting Friday afternoon at an apartment complex in Dublin near an elementary school, authorities said.

Dublin police said the shooting occurred around 2:21 p.m. at the Emerald Park Apartment Homes in the 5500 block of Hacienda Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The nearby Dougherty Elementary School was cordoned off and the area around Hacienda Avenue and Central Parkway was closed to traffic during the investigation. Police posted on social media at 4:27 p.m. that the lockdown had been lifted and roads had reopened.

The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately released. There was no description of the suspect, but police said no suspect had been identified yet.

According to police, there appears to be no ongoing threat to public safety.
