Three people arrested after chemical weapons incident in Grand Parade

Emergency services were called to the scene at 23:00 BST on Friday.

Three people have been arrested following a reported chemical accident at a property in East Sussex.

Emergency services were called to a disturbance at a property in Grand Parade, Brighton, at around 11pm BST on Friday.

The building was evacuated after it was reported that an ammonia incident had occurred inside.

Two men and a woman, who police said all knew each other, were arrested and taken to hospital.

One of the men, aged 32 and from Brighton, was released.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, criminal damage and assault on an emergency worker, Sussex Police said. He remains in custody.

The other man and the woman are still in the hospital. They are probably not seriously injured, police said.

Three people were arrested in connection with the incident.

Firefighters, police, paramedics and a hazardous materials response team were on site on Friday evening.

A temporary road closure has been put in place between the intersections of Richmond Parade and Morley Street.

The streets have now reopened and police said there was no major danger to the population.
