Shooting in South Chicago: Man found shot in 7900 block of South Phillips Avenue, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) — A man was found shot to death on Chicago's south side Friday night, police said.

Police said the shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Phillips Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter call and received another call about a person shot while patrolling the area.

Officers discovered an unconscious 35- to 40-year-old man who had been shot in the stomach, police said.

Police said the Chicago Fire Department arrived to treat the victim and his death was pronounced at the scene.

No one is in custody and detectives from Area Two are investigating.

Police did not initially provide any further information about the shooting.
