Man arrested in Arizona accused of threatening to kill Trump

A southern Arizona man was arrested for allegedly making death threats against Donald Trump on social media, authorities said.

Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, was in Cochise County on Thursday as he visited the U.S.-Mexico border as part of his campaign.

Ronald Lee Syrvud, 66, of Benson, was identified as a suspect by the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, Reuters reported. It is in the same county as the border region that Senator JD Vance, Trump's running mate, and Trump have visited in recent weeks. He had several outstanding arrest warrants from Wisconsin, the sheriff's office said.

Syvrud was then booked into the Cochise County Jail on an arrest warrant issued out of Graham County, Arizona, for “failure to register as a sex offender and two counts of threatening in court in this case,” the sheriff's office added. He remained in custody pending the court's decision on further action.

“I'm not surprised by the threat. The reason is that I want to do things that are very bad for the bad guys,” Trump said on Thursday when asked about the threat against him in Arizona, according to The Guardian.

Despite these and the new threats, Trump said on Thursday that he has “great respect” for the Secret Service and “the work they do.” He acknowledged that they have made mistakes, but believes they will learn from them.

In December, a New Hampshire man was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill Republican presidential candidates, and a Virginia man was accused of threatening Trump's Democratic opponent Kamala Harris in early August.

In July, Trump suffered an ear injury in an assassination attempt that left one man dead and two others injured.

The US secret service was subjected to extensive scrutiny following the shooting, which led to the resignation of the agency's director.
