A 68-year-old man has died in an incident at a campsite near Gatwick Airport, police said.

Sussex Police said the man, from Surrey, died as a result of an incident that occurred shortly after 2pm (BST) on Friday.

Police said the cause of the incident at the Gatwick Caravan and Motorhome Club campsite on Charlwood Road in Crawley was under investigation and was the subject of a coroner's inquiry.

A spokesman for the Caravan and Motorhome Club said: “The club is aware of the tragic incident at the club campsite in Gatwick and supports all those involved.”

They said they could not comment further as the matter was being handled by the authorities.

“Our thoughts and support are with everyone affected,” they added.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “His next of kin have been informed and are currently receiving support from specially trained officers.”
