Horrific DUI arrest isn't DaniLeigh's first run-in with the law; Singer's toxic relationship with DaBaby once led to assault charges

Singer, songwriter and dancer DaniLeigh, real name Danielle Leigh Curiel, began her career by posting cover songs on YouTube before moving to Los Angeles and starting choreographing for other artists. The singer has performed as a background dancer for artists such as Nelly Furtado and Pharrell Williams. Prince became DaniLeigh's mentor after she directed a video for his single Breakfast can wait.

The singer had a brief appearance in Megan Thee Stallion’s Hot girl summer and later choreographed DaBaby's music video BOP on Broadway. Her musical style is inspired by hip-hop and Latin, with R&B at the core. The singer has a daughter with DaBaby, whom she split from in 2021. DaniLeigh is back in the news after an old video of her being arrested for hit-and-run driving while under the influence of alcohol was released.

DaniLeigh believes that shecannot be arrested because she is a singer'

According to TMZ reports, singer-songwriter DaniLeigh was arrested in Miami Beach in May 2023 after it was revealed that she hit a person who was riding a moped. The report mentioned that the artist was observed by several witnesses driving at high speeds and eventually hitting someone.

The person, who was riding a scooter, was dragged for about a block. Police officers who arrived at the scene administered a breathalyzer test, which the woman failed. She was then required to take a breathalyzer test. The officer told TMZ at the time that she had a blood alcohol level of between 0.145 and 0.148, which is twice the legal limit. She was charged with three felony counts.

Now, bodycam footage of the artist has been released, showing her speaking to officers who ask her if she hit the scooter, to which she replies that she did not. The officer ordered the singer to exit the vehicle before handcuffing her, and she said:

I'm an artist. I'm an R&B singer and you're trying to arrest me. What's going on?

Quavo is also seen in the video asking the officer what happened and after officers asked her to back up, he complied. As a result, she was sentenced to five years of probation after pleading “no contest” to a DUI charge in February. DaniLeigh was also charged with DUI with serious bodily harm and leaving the scene of a crime. Her attorney, Michael Catalano, told XXL Magazine:

She wasn't really at fault for the accident and didn't know how she hit anyone, but the car was damaged. She wants to say, “I'm really sorry,” but the victim has a lawyer and we never let people speak because it can be fatal to them.

Catalano added that the blame really lies with the injured gentleman. She deeply apologizes and finds it terrible that anyone was hurt.

Resurfaced news shows DaBaby accused Dani Leigh of assault

After DaniLeigh's May 2023 bodycam footage was released in which she says she can't be charged because she's a singer, fans dug up her past and found out that she was accused of assault by her former boyfriend DaBaby.

According to USA Today, police officers in Charlotte, North Carolina, responded to a domestic violence call from DaBaby, claiming DaniLeigh had assaulted him. The next morning, police received a call reporting a disturbance from the same home. The singer was charged with two counts of simple assault.

The former couple took to their respective social media channels to try to explain their issue to the public, which according to DaniLeigh was about the rapper kicking her and her baby out. DaBaby later mentioned that he is a very dutiful father and loves his children. The singer mentioned that she and her daughter left DaBaby's house and are safe.

There are reports that DaniLeigh's brother Brandon Bills is suing DaBaby for $4 million in damages over the alleged attack in 2022. According to InTouch Weekly, Bills was at the bowling alley in Southern California when Baby attacked him. A video of the brawl was shared online and police launched an investigation into the situation. However, no charges were filed and Bills filed a civil lawsuit against DaBaby.

According to reports, the two charges against DaniLeigh, namely hit and run and drunk driving, will be dropped if she completes her five years of probation without violations.
