NJ man charged with attempted murder in July shooting, authorities say

Authorities in Passaic County have made an arrest in connection with a July shooting that left a 43-year-old woman injured, Passaic County District Attorney Camelia M. Valdes announced Saturday.

Angelo Jimenez, 23, of Elizabeth was arrested Friday and charged with attempted first-degree murder and second-degree weapons offenses in connection with a July 21 shooting in Paterson that left one person injured in Paterson.

Paterson police were called to a shooting in the area between Prospect and Market streets at 9:57 p.m. on July 21 and found a 43-year-old woman with a non-fatal gunshot wound, authorities said.

The woman was taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center for treatment and police later found a possible crime scene, authorities said.

An investigation by the Paterson Police Department's Shooting Investigation Unit and the Passaic County District Attorney's Office determined that Jimenez was responsible for the shooting, authorities said. Details of the investigation were not released by authorities Saturday.

Authorities said Jimenez was arrested by Paterson police around 1 a.m. Friday in the area between Garfield Avenue and Jefferson Street.

The prosecution said on Saturday that it would request that Jimenez remain in custody until his detention hearing. The date for the detention hearing has not yet been set.

An attorney for Jimenez was not listed Saturday.
