Police call on CBI to take action in the US in the telephone surveillance case

Hyderabad: Police have approached the Director, CBI to issue a ‘Red Corner’ notice on the main accused in the phone tapping case, T. Prabhakar Rao, former chief of SIB, and Shravan Kumar Rao, managing director of I-News, who are in the US.

“We have written to the US Embassy and the Immigration Department and explained that the accused are wanted in a very serious case and are misusing their visas,” the city's police commissioner, Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy, told the media on Saturday.

According to sources, the CBI was the nodal agency for coordinating with Interpol and the US government of the accused.

“The case will go forward once the main culprits are arrested and they are now on the run. We have also written to the US Consul General that they (the accused) are misusing the visas of the other country. We are confident that in the next few days we will…” said Sreenivasa Reddy. He said the application for the Red Corner Notices was under process and “we want to expedite it.”

“The case is still ongoing and the other defendants who are in prison will not be released on bail despite all efforts because this is a serious crime that involves an invasion of people's privacy,” the police chief said.

When asked whether the police were considering issuing notices to policy makers, Sreenivasa Reddy replied: “As the case progresses… definitely.”
