Man killed, child injured in Friday night shooting in North Philadelphia

A 33-year-old man is dead and a 9-year-old boy was hospitalized with a gunshot wound following a shooting in North Philadelphia Friday night.

The shooting occurred around 6:19 p.m. in the 600 block of North 12th Street. Police told FOX29 that the 33-year-old man was in the street talking to someone in a parked car when at least two gunmen in a black Jeep Cherokee pulled up and began shooting at the man.

The man sought shelter and got into a nearby car that was traveling with the engine running. Inside the car were a mother, her stepfather and two children. Police told CBS Philadelphia it was unclear whether the man knew the family in the car.

Authorities said the man was shot multiple times and a 9-year-old boy in the car was shot in the right leg. The man ran from the car into a nearby house.

Police have not released the whereabouts of the shooters or commented on their motives, saying only that the car came under heavy fire. The 33-year-old man was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and pronounced dead. The 9-year-old boy was also taken to the hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

As part of the ongoing investigation, investigators are speaking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage.

Earlier Friday, another shooting in North Philly left a 25-year-old man dead. The shooting occurred around 3:34 p.m. in the 5500 block of North 6th Street. The man, identified by 6ABC as rapper Abdul Vicks, was shot multiple times in the chest and right hand. A private vehicle took Vicks to Jefferson Einstein Medical Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m.
