Victor Robles leaves the game apparently due to a hand injury

SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners outfield took a big blow on Saturday.

Mariners right fielder Victor Robles, playing in his first game since missing the last two games due to hip flexor soreness, left the game at the end of the first inning with an apparent hand injury.

Robles was trying to bunt at the start of the first inning when a ball flew through his fingers.

Robles was in obvious pain after the hit and curled up on the ground while trainers and manager Dan Wilson checked on him. Robles angrily threw his helmet away before the trainers checked on him.

After a few moments, Robles left the game and Luke Raley took over the rest of his at-bat. Raley was eventually ejected after Robles' attempt to bunt was ruled a foul.

Raley also took Robles' place in right field.

Robles' injury occurred shortly after Randy Arozarena was slow to get to his feet after a pike catch in the outfield in the first inning. Arozarena ultimately stayed in the game.

An injury to Robles would be the last thing Seattle needs.

The outfield consisting of Robles, Arozarena and Julio Rodriguez was scheduled to play its first game together in the outfield on Saturday and managed one inning.

The Mariners were 4.5 games out of the top spot in the American League West entering Saturday and will need all hands on deck if they want to reach the postseason.

Robles has a .256 batting average with three home runs, 13 RBIs and 18 stolen bases for Seattle this season.

No word was said about the severity of Robles' injury when he was eliminated.
