Driver evacuated by ejection seat and helicopter after rollover accident on the NB 15 freeway in Hesperia – VVNG.com

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) – A two-vehicle crash shortly after midnight resulted in the temporary closure of Highway 15 northbound in Hesperia.

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, at approximately 12:22 a.m., Barstow Emergency Management received a report of a traffic accident south of Bear Valley Road.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the incident. Firefighters requested a helicopter to land on northbound I-15.

Upon arrival, CHP officers found an unidentified man in his 20s lying unresponsive in the roadway. The man, who was driving a 2006 Pontiac G6, was flown by helicopter to Loma Linda Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The other vehicle, a 2023 Nissan Rogue, had two occupants who were not injured in the accident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the Pontiac G6 was traveling in lane #2 and the Nissan Rogue was traveling in lane #1 on I-15 northbound.

For unknown reasons, the Pontiac made an unsafe left turn and collided with the Nissan Rogue. Both vehicles drifted to the left and struck the center barrier, causing both drivers to lose control.

The Pontiac rolled over but came to rest on its wheels within its lane, while the Nissan Rogue veered onto the right shoulder, crashed into a concrete culvert and landed on its roof.

CHP officers block traffic

Victorville Police are investigating the accident, but there is no evidence that alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.

Any witnesses or anyone with additional information are asked to contact the Victorville CHP Area office at (760) 241-1186.
