Amazon driver charged with hit-and-run that injured mother and baby – Crime Online

Police in Florida this week arrested an Amazon delivery driver for a hit-and-run that left a 30-year-old Miami mother and her young son hospitalized.

The incident occurred Thursday morning as the woman was pushing her child in a stroller while walking her dog. A car struck the mother and child, knocking the woman to the ground and throwing the child from the stroller, Miami-Dade police said.

The suspect was observed exiting her vehicle, setting up the stroller and placing the baby back in it before fleeing the scene. The victims were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment of their injuries while police began an investigation and eventually identified the driver as Sarahy Naybeth Parra-Ovalles, 45.

Parra-Ovalles was arrested late Friday afternoon and is charged with two counts of hit-and-run causing bodily injury, according to WFOR.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. in Aventura Isles Estates, a gated community. Parra-Ovalles identified herself as an Amazon driver to the security guard, who took photos of her driver's license and license plates before letting her in.

Video showed the woman entering an intersection with the stroller when Parra-Ovalles turned into the intersection from the opposite lane and struck the woman and stroller, according to arrest records. The woman was thrown backward, the stroller was overturned and the baby fell to the ground.

The woman suffered a skull fracture, bruises and a brain hemorrhage, WTVJ reported. The baby had a cut on her forehead.

According to police, Parra-Ovalles initially said she was making deliveries and saw the victims on the street. She said the mother appeared “out of her mind” and “had her hands on the hood.” When she asked if she was OK, the mother nodded and Parra-Ovalles said she drove away.

The police then showed her a video of the accident. At that point, she denied hitting the mother and child and invoked her Miranda rights.

A neighbor told WFOR that the woman and her son were doing better. No one said whether the dog was injured.

An Amazon spokesman told the broadcaster on Saturday that Parra-Ovalles “no longer delivers for the company.”

“This is a terrible incident and our thoughts are with this family,” the spokesman said. “We are investigating the matter and will assist law enforcement with their investigation.”
