Philadelphia fire truck involved in fatal accident: police

A woman is dead and a man sustained injuries after an accident involving a Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) truck in North Philadelphia on Saturday.

According to police, the accident occurred around 12:10 p.m. at the intersection of W. Lehigh Avenue and W. Sedgley Avenue.

According to preliminary investigations, a rescue ladder was en route to a scene heading west on Lehigh Avenue.

A vehicle was traveling north on Sedgley Avenue when the driver yielded to the fire truck, resulting in a collision.

During this impact, the vehicle collided with a parked, unattended car.

Both the driver and the passenger of the car that yielded to the fire engine were taken to Temple Hospital.

The driver, a 29-year-old man, is in critical condition, while the passenger, a 23-year-old woman, was pronounced dead in hospital.

The investigation is being continued by the Accident Investigation Department.
