Peter Dinklage has no idea if 'Toxic Avenger' will ever be released — World of Reel

Last month we reported that Macon Blair's remake of “The Toxic Avenger” starring Peter Dinklage was judged to be “too weird” and “unreleasable”.

Blair’s film, which was rated R for strong violence, was shown at a handful of genre film festivals – the Reviews have rated it 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the film still has no distribution. It is said that If If the film is picked up, it will most likely be available directly via VOD or streaming.

Now we have Dinklage himself, during a recent interview with ComicBookand stated that he had no idea whether the film would ever see the light of day.

“No, I'm not a producer. I don't know,” Dinklage replied when asked if he knew anything about the release date of The Toxic Avenger. “I want it to get out into the world because it was a real hit at Fantastic Fest in Austin, and Macon Blair, the writer/director, who's also in 'The Thicket'… He's incredible. He's one of my favorite people and favorite artists. So hopefully it will make its grand entrance in the toxic sun.”

“The Toxic Avenger” had its first public screening in September 2023 at Fantastic Fest, then it also played at Beyond Fest and the Sitges Film Festival. That’s about it. I’m actually surprised it didn’t play at Fantasia Film Festival last July.

A Teasers was released for the film in October 2023. Since then, it's been quiet, we haven't heard anything about it. For those who don't know the original 1984 film, which enjoys cult status, it tells the story of a janitor who is exposed to toxic waste and becomes a deformed superhero as a result. He then embarks on a quest for revenge.

Blair directed the 2017 Sundance winner I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore, and Toxic Avenger is his second follow-up, making one wonder if we'll ever get to see the film.
