Jordan High School student stabbed and killed in fight outside Mountain America Expo Center

A Jordan High School student died after being stabbed during an altercation outside the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy.

Sandy City police said they were called to the exhibition center at 9575 South State Street shortly before 9 p.m. on Friday, August 23, for reports of a fight taking place.

Officers arrived along with the Sandy City Fire Department and found a juvenile who had been stabbed.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where officials later confirmed his death.

In this case, the police were able to identify a suspect with the help of witness statements. The suspect – also a minor – was located and taken into custody.

Sandy Police noted that “this investigation presents several complications due to the age of those involved and those directly affected.”

The agency works with the Canyons School District and encourages students to seek help at the Jordan High Counseling Center if needed.

On Saturday, August 24, the school will remain open for students who need support.

This case is active and ongoing.
