Will the Dallas Cowboys increase their cornerback strength?

The Dallas Cowboys received brutal news on Saturday before their team's final preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

It was announced that All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland suffered a broken foot that requires surgery. The injury could keep him out of action for six to eight weeks.

Bland's injury was diagnosed after he felt pain in his foot during training camp in Oxnard.

The disappointing setback means Cowboys fans will have to wait to see Bland and fellow All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs back on the field.

But Bland's injury also raises a bigger question: Will the Cowboys sign another cornerback before the start of the regular season? Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed the answer to reporters after the team's loss to the Chargers.

Bland's injury creates a huge opportunity for Caelen Carson, a fifth-round pick who has had a stellar training camp. The Cowboys also have Andrew Booth Jr., who they traded for two weeks ago; Kemon Hall, who was claimed off waivers after being released by the 49ers; and Eric Scott Jr.

Booth was a preseason pick-six after being signed by the team.

If any of these players are able to improve their performance, Jourdan Lewis can stay on the pitch where he excels.

While losing Bland is disappointing, it's not necessarily the doomsday scenario that many initially anticipated as a hasty reaction. Cornerback is one of the few areas where the Cowboys are strong, and we'll just have to wait and see if some of the talent can step up.

Dallas will begin its 2024 season on Sunday, September 8, away against the Cleveland Browns. Tom Brady will make his FOX commentary debut for this game.
