Statesboro police search for new clues in 12-year-old unsolved case

SAVANNAH, Georgia (WTOC) – Statesboro Police are making an appeal to the public Saturday as the investigation into an unsolved case has now lasted for 12 years.

34-year-old Akeila Rochelle Martin was shot in the parking lot of the Platinum Lounge.

This happened on August 19, 2012 at around 3 a.m.

When the incident occurred, there was a large crowd of 200 to 300 people in the parking lot.

Akeila and another woman were shot, the other woman survived.

The police examined and questioned numerous people on site.

On Saturday, the investigator in this case made the following request:

“Twelve long years have passed since Akeila Martin was tragically murdered, but the grief and sorrow of her family and friends remains as great as ever. Akeila, a beloved daughter, mother, sister and friend, was taken from this world in a gratuitous act of violence, leaving a void that can never be filled. Her five children have had to grow up without their mother's love and guidance. Akeila will never see them celebrate their birthdays, attend school dances, hear their laughter or comfort their tears. She will miss their proms, their graduations, their weddings and the joy of becoming a grandmother herself. The milestones they should have shared with their mother were overshadowed by her absence.”
