19-year-old from Salinas killed in early morning accident – ​​KION546

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) – The CHP confirmed that a 19-year-old Salinas man was killed in a crash early Saturday morning on the city's north side.

The accident was reported to the CHP shortly after 6 a.m. at the intersection of Russell and Harrison Road.

According to new information from the agency, a Honda SUV was traveling north on Main Street toward the intersection while a Lexus sedan was traveling south on Harrison Road toward the same intersection.

According to investigators, the Lexus was attempting to turn left onto Russell Road when the two cars collided at the intersection for reasons still under investigation.

The CHP said a 19-year-old Salinas man who was sitting in the right passenger seat of the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released by the Monterey County Coroner's Office once next of kin have been notified.

The driver of the Lexus, a 27-year-old man from Salinas, was not injured in the crash, according to the CHP. The driver of the Honda, a 42-year-old woman from Salinas, suffered what are believed to be minor injuries but declined medical transport.

The CHP did not say whether either vehicle ran a red light at the time of the collision.

Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to play a role in this accident.
