New Delhi: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has received a legal notice demanding the expulsion of star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan from all cricket associations. The notice came after Shakib was listed as one of the 146 people named in an FIR for an alleged murder during the nationwide protests earlier this month that led to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation and flight from the country.

The FIR was filed on Thursday by Rafiqul Islam in connection with the death of his son Mohammed Rubel, who worked in a textile factory. Rafiqul's lawyers had served the legal notice to the BCB through email and registered post. According to Cricbuzz, the notice cited ICC rules which state that a player cannot play for the national team while named in a criminal case.

The notice also asked the BCB to bring Shakib back to the country to help investigate the case and inform the ICC. The all-rounder is currently playing in the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. New BCB president Faruque Ahmed said that they have not yet received the notice and a decision on Shakib can only be taken after the end of the first Test on Sunday.

“Let me say something about Shakib. A case has been filed. We have not received any legal notice yet. An FIR (First Information Letter) has been issued in the case and later there will be an investigation and after that the case will develop in one direction or the other,” Faruque told reporters.

“Look, we are playing a Test match now and it is very good news that we played well on the fourth day. Tomorrow is the fifth day, the crucial day of the Test and I think at this point we have not thought about taking a stance. The day after tomorrow, when the match is over, we will sit down and take a decision,” he said.
