Floyd Mayweather dominates John Gotti III after referee change in mid-fight

Floyd Mayweather made light work of John Gotti III during a rematch of an exhibition fight in Mexico, which saw a referee change in the middle of the fight.

Mayweather's first fight with Gotti, the grandson of New York crime boss John Gotti, ended in farce in June 2023 when the fight was stopped in the sixth round following a mass brawl in the ring.

Saturday night's fight in Mexico City threatened to follow the same course when Panamanian referee Hector Afu left the ring in the second round and was replaced by Mexican official Alfredo Uruzquieta.

Afu was reportedly angry at Mayweather's protests after the referee ruled a left hook by the American against Gotti illegal.

Mayweather, 47, continued to dominate Gotti when the fight resumed, with Gotti's lack of striking power drawing boos from the 22,000-strong crowd in the Mexican capital.

Gotti's attack improved in the fourth round after the crowd booed, but Mayweather rarely seemed fazed and maintained the upper hand throughout.

An official winner was not declared and the result will not count toward either fighter's career record.

Mayweather retired in 2017 with a career undefeated record in 50 fights.

He continued to take part in exhibition fights, especially against Logan Paul.
