Karnataka High Court suspends investigation into US man accused of cruelty over French fries

In a shocking and bizarre incident, the Karnataka High Court has temporarily stayed the Bengaluru police investigation into a woman's allegations of cruelty against her US-based husband. The husband had accused her husband of forbidding her from eating French fries, leading to the issuance of a wanted notice restricting his return to the US for work, TOI reports.

Justice M. Nagaprasanna on Thursday issued a direction for further action, granting the husband's application to return to the United States and staying the leave to return until the next hearing on September 21.

In addition, my husband was allowed to leave the country after he submitted an affidavit confirming his willingness to participate in future investigations.

What were the allegations?

Recently, a woman filed a case against her husband under Sections 498A and 504 of the Indian Penal Code and the Dowry Prohibition Act, alleging that her husband restricted her diet after delivery because he feared weight gain.

During the hearing, the husband defended himself by saying that he does all the housework while his wife spends a lot of time watching television and talking on the phone.

Later, delivering the verdict, Justice Nagaprasanna found that the complaint lacked evidence of cruelty under Section 498A of the IPC and said that continuing the investigation would be an abuse of the process of law.
