Racing driver sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl

A racing driver has escaped a prison sentence after sexually assaulting a young girl in Didcot.

On December 3, 2021, 22-year-old Peter Jones pressed his hands on the erect penis of a 14-year-old girl on a park bench.

Banger Racer, then 19, was also charged with oral rape. However, after two trials, the two juries were unable to reach a verdict and the prosecution decided not to present any evidence.

Jones, of Furlong Close, Oxford, was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years, at Oxford Crown Court on Friday (23 August).

In passing sentence, Judge Maria Lamb said: “I will not enter into speculation as to why two juries were unable to reach a verdict in the oral rape case.

“In my opinion, she was harassed by you with sexual images. In fact, she was attracted to you by you grabbing her hands and placing them on your penis.

“No judgment passed by this court can ever compensate her for what she experienced that night.”

During the sentencing, a victim impact statement written by the girl, whose name cannot be disclosed for legal reasons, was read by prosecutor Charles Ward-Jackson.

It states: “As a child and teenager, I suffered trauma in all areas of my life as a result of Peter Jones’s assault.

“He took a lot from me that I can't give back. I lost my childhood and joy and the goals I wanted to achieve.

“I am now suffering from mental health problems. I find it difficult to accept kindness from others. [Jones] took my kindness and trust for granted.

“I still have nightmares. I felt like my whole life was falling apart. Hopefully Jones has learned from his evil deeds.”

“He never took responsibility, my only hope is that one day he will. I will never get my childhood or my innocence back because of what happened.”

Jones's attorney defended Jones, saying her client was only 19 years old at the time, “so there was a certain degree of immaturity.”

He was also diagnosed with autism and ADHD. At the age of 15, he was reported to social services for “emotional neglect.”

She said he would be “at risk of exploitation and harassment” if remanded in custody.

Jones was also fined £500 and ordered to complete six months of drug rehabilitation, 30 sessions of an approved programme and five days of rehabilitation.

In addition, he was placed under electronic monitoring and a restraining order was issued to prevent sexual violence.
