Trial of Steuben County man accused of killing his sister postponed – Finger Lakes Daily News

A judge in Steuben County agreed to delay further trial of John Marvin II.

Marvin is the 59-year-old county resident accused of murdering his sister in Erwin last February. During Marvin's court appearance last Wednesday, the judge agreed to postpone the case until October. Marvin's public defender requested the postponement to allow additional psychological testing to be conducted, which is intended to uncover any undiagnosed psychological or emotional issues Marvin may have, but is not intended to assess his legal competency.

In February, police responded to a home in Erwin and found 60-year-old Heather Moran with injuries sustained during an argument with her younger brother, John. State police say Marvin is accused of repeatedly hitting his sister in the head with a cast-iron skillet while she was sitting in the kitchen eating with her 81-year-old father, whom they both cared for. Their father tried to stop his son from attacking, but fell to the ground as he got up from his wheelchair. He was uninjured but was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
