Death investigation underway following fiery car crash in Woodbridge


PHILADELPHIA, PA — On Saturday, a fatal accident occurred between a Philadelphia Fire Department aerial ladder truck and another vehicle. A 23-year-old woman died and a 29-year-old man was seriously injured.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:10 p.m. at the intersection of W. Lehigh Avenue and W. Sedgley Avenue in the 22nd Precinct. According to a preliminary investigation, the PFD ladder vehicle, identified as Unit #1, was traveling westbound on Lehigh Avenue to a call when it collided with another vehicle, identified as Unit #2, traveling northbound on Sedgley Avenue.

The collision occurred after the driver of Unit #2 allegedly gave the fire truck directions. The impact caused Unit #2 to strike a parked, unattended vehicle identified as Unit #3. The male driver of Unit #2 was taken to Temple University Hospital where he is in critical condition. The female passenger, who was also in Unit #2, was pronounced dead at Temple Hospital at 12:44 p.m.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities attempt to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash.
