Caden Tellier, Alabama High School football player, dies after injury

Morgan Academy Football Caden Tellier: In a heartbreaking turn of events, Caden Tellier, a promising young athlete and popular student at Morgan Academy, has passed away as a result of a severe brain injury sustained during a football game. The death of the 16-year-old quarterback has sent shockwaves through the local community and the larger Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) family.

Tellier was injured Friday night during a game against Southern Academy in Selma. After sustaining the injury in the third quarter, he was immediately flown by helicopter to UAB Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Tellier's condition was fatal and he died Saturday.

Morgan Academy Principal Dr. Bryan Oliver confirmed the tragic news and the school has subsequently announced the cancellation of all athletic activities for the coming week, including the scheduled game against Wilcox Academy. This move reflects the deep loss felt by the school community.

In a statement shared on social media, Tellier's family expressed their deep sadness and gratitude. They noted that Caden, known for his kindness and generosity, chose to become an organ donor. His family takes comfort in knowing that his legacy of giving will live on through the lives he will save.

“Our boy, Caden Tellier, has come to know Jesus face to face,” the family wrote. “We appreciate all of your prayers and ask for them as we face difficult days ahead. Everyone who knows Caden has experienced kindness, generosity and love, and true to his nature, he gives of himself once again. His life touched lives and now lives are being saved through his death.”

AISA Executive Director Michael McLendon also expressed his condolences and acknowledged the close solidarity of the AISA community and the collective grief over Tellier's death.

Dr. Oliver described Tellier as a “shining light” at Morgan Academy, emphasizing his devotion to his faith and the positive influence he has had on those around him. “There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family,” he said. “We will come together and support Jamie, Arsella and Lyla with all our hearts.”

Plans for a memorial service are expected to be announced soon, when the Morgan Academy community will come together to honor Caden Tellier's memory and support his family during this difficult time.

The loss of Caden Tellier is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the profound impact a young person can have on their community. His spirit will undoubtedly live on in the lives he touches even after his death.
