Community mourns the tragic death of Morgan Academy quarterback Caden Tellier following a brain injury

Caden Tellier, Morgan Academy football player: SELMA, Alabama – The community of Selma, Alabama, is mourning the tragic death of 16-year-old Caden Tellier, quarterback for Morgan Academy. Tellier died Saturday from a severe brain injury sustained the night before during a football game against Southern Academy.

Tellier, an eleventh-grade student at the private school, was taken to hospital after sustaining an injury during the game. Despite immediate medical attention, his condition worsened, leading to his untimely death.

Dr. Bryan Oliver, head of school at Morgan Academy, shared the sad news in a heartfelt statement. “It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that Caden Tellier has gone to be with his Lord and Savior,” Oliver said. “Caden loved the Lord with all his heart and was a shining light every day he graced the halls of Morgan Academy. He was a student, a friend, an athlete, and most importantly, a follower of Christ.”

The exact details of Tellier's injuries were not disclosed, but his death has left a profound impact on the Morgan Academy community and beyond. Tellier was known for his kindness and generosity, and his legacy will live on through the donation of his organs, a final gesture of giving that reflects his character. A GoFundMe campaign set up for his family highlighted this aspect of his life, stating, “True to his nature, he is giving of himself once again to save the lives of others through the donation of his organs.”

The Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) also responded to the tragedy. Michael McLendon, executive director of AISA, called for prayers and support for Tellier's family and the Morgan Academy community. “We ask that our entire AISA family and the people of Alabama join us in praying for peace and comfort for Caden's family and the Morgan Academy community as they get through this difficult time,” McLendon said.

In light of this tragic event, Morgan Academy has decided to suspend all school activities for the coming week. This decision is intended to give students, staff and the wider community time to grieve and support one another.

As the community reflects on the loss of this young athlete, they are united in their remembrance of Caden Tellier's life and the indelible mark he left on those around him. His legacy of compassion and final act of selflessness will be treasured and remembered by all who knew him.
