NASCAR driver suffers horror accident in Daytona when his car overturns and hits a fence

NASCAR driver Josh Berry suffered a life-threatening accident at the Coke Sugar Zero 400 when his car went off the track, rolled over and hit the fence.

The 33-year-old had a good chance of making it onto the podium in Daytona before the accident occurred on Saturday evening two laps before the end.

Berry was behind Austin Cindric at this point.

According to NASCAR's official X-Account, Berry was “evaluated and released from the Infield Care Center.”

He even gave the crowd a thumbs up after getting out of his car.

NBC footage shows Berry's car going off the road after colliding with Cindric's car.

Cindric then took the opportunity to extend his lead while Berry and his car passed through the accident scene.

However, Harrison Button was declared the winner of this weekend's race.

Kyle Busch finished second while Christopher Bell finished third.

Cendric finally finished 18th out of 40 participating riders.

Several NASCAR fans called for Cendric to be punished for derailing Berry.

“Cindric deserves to be suspended,” said one user on X.

“Cindric should be suspended. For life. No talent,” wrote another.

“Cindric is such a dangerous driver. There is no reason why he should be racing in Cup races like this,” another person shared.

“Cindric is also lucky he didn’t freak out,” noted another user.

Earlier this month, Austin Dillon made headlines after hitting fellow NASCAR driver Joey Logano in Turn 4 of the final lap at Richmond Raceway.

Logano finished the race in first place – his first win in two years – despite Logan calling him a “piece of crap” after the race.
