Death of PBS star leaves fans heartbroken and praying

“This Old House” star Roger Cook has won many fans as a landscape gardener who has an answer to every problem of the last four decades.

So, naturally, these fans were heartbroken to learn of Cook's recent death after a long battle with illness.

He was 70.

The show announced Cook's death in a post on its website.

“It is with great sadness that This Old House says goodbye to our friend and long-time landscaper Roger Cook, who passed away on August 21, 2024 after a long battle with illness,” the post said.

Fans and supporters quickly responded with prayers and good wishes.

“Sad to hear, he was a very personable and knowledgeable guy,” wrote one person on X. “I've learned a lot from Roger over the years… laying turf, identifying the right face on a plant, what a boring lawn cut looks like, soil mix… #Legend.”

“This is sad news,” wrote another person. “RIP Roger. I've watched many episodes. I just watched an episode last weekend where he was working on a retaining wall and helping to select trees for landscaping. I knew he was extremely knowledgeable and hardworking. He will be missed.”

“Very sad to read this,” wrote another. “His passion was so infectious. His knowledge seemed to have no limits. I send my deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.”

Cook was from Burlington, Massachusetts. He founded K&R Landscape in 1982 with his wife, Kathleen. According to the post, the company is still in business today. He also started “This Old House” in 1982.
